JW - you make a very good point and I'm sorry that you nearly had a vomiting episode when you read some of the whines. However, with respect, you have never been through some of the horrendous experiences that some here have - I know that you didn't have any easy time of it growing up - but you imagine having an unbelieving partner who would leave you and take your kids away if you spoke against the organisation, you go through losing all your friends and family and being shunned by everyone you know and treated like you're dead, you see one of your loved ones die of a transfusion, you watch someone you love live their life a broken person because of being abused by someone that was protected by the organisation, you experience your father being disfellowshipped for having a blood transfusion, see him shunned by everyone , then not have him come to your wedding or have a funeral service when he dies, you get chucked out of the house when you're 16 and suicidal and told that your parents don't have a child, the list goes on and on and on -
Maybe then you'd understand that some people here are so damaged, cannot heal in a short time and need to get this of their chest to people who they know will really understand and will love and support them.
Would you blame a woman with a violent husband if she left him and then complained about him or couldn't heal from being thrown down the stairs, having her head smashed against a wall, having her children tortured and abused, set fire to? Unless you've walked a mile in someone's shoes you do not know what they have been through and how they will cope going forward. Give them a break!
This place has literally saved people's lives - if you don't like some of the sentiments here then you are free to go elsewhere - if you don't like blood and guts get out of the hospital!

I dont understand the hate...
by JamesWind ini grew up as a jehovah's witness.
my mother was uneducated and so we moved every 2-4 years as she tried to find stable enough work to support a child so ive attended many kingdom halls and have known many witnesses and many elders.
i've never gone back to the witness organization and never will.

The Build Up to March 10, 2008
by sweet pea inso, everyone, do you think there's any mileage in planning a campaign leading up to the watchtower study on the faithful and discreet slave being appointed in 1919?
who's planning on doing some personal study on this one with their family?
i'm sure open mind has something up his sleeve?

libh - I have no complaints about Besty's domestic abilities - he's an amazing chef! And I've always liked the strong Scottish MCP type! LOL.
Pioneer Spit - any feedback from your parents?
Anyone else planning on doing anything similar? -

I am so tempted to put a one pager together (something simple, along the lines of Lavender's thread) entitled 'Additional Study Notes for WT March 2008', but I just know that the friends I'd most like to give it to will tear it up before they even read it, that together with the words ringing in my ears of an old JW friend - "If I ever catch you handing out anti-JW leaflets, I'll take you across my knee and apank you!" LOL. Well, I suppose that would be progress with regards to contact.......
Perhaps, friends, you could use this thread as a place to post your experiences leading up to this very exposed doctrine of the society that no one ever questions or researches? -

I Just Have to Share This
by snowbird inmy estranged hubby and i have a brilliant 18-year old daughter who has been working since the age of 16. she received a full academic scholarship plus numerous monetary awards for her high school achievements.
needless to say, she's built up a nice little nest egg.. estranged hubby has always been an exceptional father.
for instance, when baby girl needed an abacus in 3rd grade, he made one for her.

What has Changed the most? This board or your perspective?
by AK - Jeff inwe seem to go thru 'phases' here of 'i'm leaving because the board is changing' threads.
there is certainly a microcosm of social-evolution involved with any structured community, and that evolution may create in certain people a need to 'move on' [though often they are back rather soon after].. my assumption is though - in looking at the past threads and social environment here - that not much has really changed.
there seems to be a flux of energetic change at times.

Hillary_step sums it up for me.
When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Those that visit here that are too fragile to cope with some of the more mature/heated debates/feedback will leave and feel that the organisation got it right with their view of those that leave. When they return and are not so fragile they will take from the board what they need and may give something back in return.
There is freedom of thought here, there is support and understanding and I for one appreciate that enormously coming from a place where we didn't have that freedom.
And sometimes, you can't have the good without the bad, as an old JW friend once said to me, but I'd rather have the bad of JWD any day than the bad of the Borg. -

The Bible - God's Word or Man's? - What Convinces You?
by sweet pea inhaving believed the whole bible, hook, line and sinker all these years i get the impression many of you have come to the conclusion that we should take it with a pinch of salt and not hold to it so dogmatically.
and some possibly believe in it just as much as you did when you were a witness.
to save me some time please, lovely people, as i am very lazy - could you share with me why you do or don't believe in it - what evidence there is either way and if there are any particular books that you found helpful in coming to your conclusions?

Vinny - "your short list?" I'd hate to see your long list! :-) Seriously, thanks for the effort involved in that post, some very good points to consider, and I will. I genuinely would still like to believe in the Bible in its entirety but I'm struggling with some of it right now and I have to get to the bottom of it. Faith is not good enough for me on this one, I've assumed too much for too long.

Everyone - you are fantastic!
So far it seems that those who believe the bible is by man alone have good arguments to back up that belief and those that believe it has more to do with God seem to base that belief on 'feelings'.
Dawg - any actual scientific evidence for your statement that Adam, Eve and Noah are all myths? I'm leaning towards this view but it would be helpful to have some concrete evidence that proves they couldn't have existed.
Anti-Christ - great link to RunningMan's essay on 'Numbers' - I never considered the mathematics before - very convincing argument.
Marmot - cheers for the tip to explore Genesis....
Nvr - for me the fact that the Bible inspires people to think that shunning's a good thing when all authorities who know what they're talking about decry it as permanently damaging psychological torture makes me wonder why the hell a loving God would allow someone to write down words that would justify people practicing it and feeling self-righteous for it!
Awakened - totally with you on the "what if I'd been born in another part of the world" scenario.
Catbert/Shopaholic - I'm beginning to feel like I've pushed the reset button....
Maddie - Surely, one's heart can't ignore all evidence that is presented if the evidence stands - weren't we guilty of doing this with the organisation at one time; now's the time to consider what really is the truth even if it feels uncomfortable?
Sad Emo - If some parts were 'God-breathed' because they contain wisdom, then any book that contains wisdom must be too? How do you account for secular wisdom that is not God-breathed? or Holy writings from the far east for example, are they not God-breathed too? which God?
Brother Apostate - how does Holy Spirit account for all the evidence that points to the gross failings as highlighted by RunningMan/marmot, etc? Surely one is no different from a JW sticking their head in the sand if one says that 'Faith' is the answer to everything.
White Dove - I'm beginning to think this way myself.
Thanks again everyone for your thoughts, keep em coming! -

Five Full Weekends...
by WTWizard inhave you noticed that certain months are pioneer months?
of course, the months of march, april, and may are always pioneer months because of the crapmorial.
those are the months that they push everyone to pioneer, and just about say that everyone must pioneer.. notably, there are other months.

Just seeing that title made me feel sick! The feeling of here we go again - the whole guilt trip of are you or aren't you going to pioneer this month brothers and sisters??!!
So glad we don't have this s@*t in our lives anymore! :-)
